TT&C Engineer

Satellite Talent is an independent strategic recruitment firm, specialising in the provision of C-suite, senior management and technology professionals across the global space sector. We are currently seeking an experienced TT&C Engineer to join a leading global communications company based in London. You will provide technical, operational and programmatic contributions both to core engineering activities and to the commercial activities such as third-party launch support. The role includes taking up leadership and/or programme management responsibility for specific projects.

The Role

The TT&C Engineer is expected to contribute to (and in some cases lead) in the following areas of work:

  • Provide support to various core engineering and/or operational activities to support our satellites, and future satellites, TT&C launch support activities, network upgrades, maintenance activities, ground systems support including on-call.
  • Participate in the procurement and implementation of TT&C/PCS/IOT services and equipment including development of requirements, RFP specifications, evaluation of bids, negotiations with selected bidders, monitoring technical and operational aspects of contracts.
  • Evaluate test methods and test results, and participate in factory and on-site acceptance testing for baseband, IF, RF, PCS, IOT earth station equipment. Perform independent analysis of earth station performance.
  • Support end-to-end Compatibility Testing activities with the satellite and the launch site.
  • Develop Interface Control Documents (ICDs). Co-ordinate / conduct Integration and Test (I&T) activities of earth station equipment.
  • Develop Operations Concept documents (CONOPS) in relevant areas.
  • Develop and maintain link budgets, including accuracy calculations of earth station ranging systems (standard tone ranging and spread-spectrum ranging).
  • Develop Operations and Maintenance plans for on-station routine operations. Ensure training and handover to operations personnel are carried out smoothly. Set up maintenance arrangements as necessary. Develop methods of monitoring earth stations to ensure availability requirements are met.
  • For launch and early orbit operations (LEOP) of satellites, support preparations and implementation activities, develop Specialised Operations Plans (SOPs), participate to rehearsals and exercises, provide real-time support during the mission either on-site or at the SCC.
  • Develop payload IOT procedures and test sequences and participate in / provide support to IOT campaigns at selected earth stations.

To Apply

  • University degree in electrical or electronic engineering or equivalent;
  • Min. 5 years satellite communications experience or equivalent abilities, with exposure to earth station RF and IF satellite communications equipment design, implementation and testing and to TT&C ground systems design and operations;
  • Work experience in mission real-time operational environment;
  • Good written and spoken command and communications skills in English;
  • Ability to prioritise and to work well under pressure;
  • Analytical approach to problems, but prepared to take practical shortcuts when necessary.
  • Experience of satellite IOT and associated testing;
  • Computer systems, programming and software administration experience;
  • Good negotiation skills with customers and suppliers.

Payload Design Engineer

We are currently seeking an experienced and qualified payload engineer to join one of our clients in London. Review, assessment and recommendation of supplier data from bid through to design, manufacture and test to final delivery will be a prime task.

The Role

  • Supporting the company communications payload design and development activities
  • Participating in satellite test campaigns and delivery reviews to ensure that our requirements are fulfilled
  • Managing contractor for timely resolution on communications subsystem technical problems
  • Supporting new space infrastructure procurement tasks
  • Supporting the operational team as required
  • Providing operational support for the In-Orbit satellite fleet
  • Providing timely reporting to management for critical and routine activities

To Apply

  • 3 - 5 years’ experience in communications payload design, manufacture and test from equipment level through to spacecraft level.
  • Solid experience in payload design, particular emphasis on mobile oriented communications payload technology will be considered an advantage.
  • Must have in depth knowledge of all technologies associated with communications payloads, including TWTA’s, SSPA’s, OMUX, frequency generator, onboard digital channelization and beamforming.

GALILEO Ground Segment AIV Engineer

LSE Space GmbH is looking for the location in Noordwijk (The Netherlands) an experienced Ground Segment AIV Engineer for our customer ESTEC.

You will support the Galileo Project Office in the activities of Ground Segment AIV (Assembly, Integration and Validation), with the following responsibilities:

a) AIV Engineering - Review AIV documentation (AIV Plans, RVMs, Test Cases, Test Procedures)

b) Follow up of GMS Segment Tests (in AIV Platform -- Pforzheim and the Galileo Control Centres)

  • Review Test Procedures
  • Support TRRs and ensure that planned testing is correct in terms of qualification objectives, configuration, and adequacy of the Test Procedures
  • Witness test execution
  • Review qualification test results and test logs
  • Attend PTRs and Credit Collection meetings to approve Qualification. Prepare inputs for the relevant NRBs. Approve qualification of requirements based on Results

c) Support to System Verification Activities

  • Support the Ground Segment Integration activity including test execution:
  • Review the G/S Integration documentation including the RVMs, G/S Integration and Verification Plan, Test Cases and Test Procedures.
  • Participate in the test activities (write and review Test Procedures, attend TRRs and TRBs, perform or witness test execution, coordinate test team, review qualification test results and test logs)
  • Participate in NRBs/ARBs  analyzing non-compliances and RFWs
  • Identify and report on anomalies impacting System activities and provide support for follow-up and resolution.
  • Support other System Integration and Verification activities (e.g. SCTCs, IOV Test Campaign, External Interface testing, GMS Commissioning)

You will be required to develop Pre-test documentation and post-test result approval. Including, but not limited to:

  • GMS AIV documentation (RVM, Test Plans, Test Procedures)
  • Reviewed Test Results (redlined after witnessing)
  • Proposed qualification credits to be approved during formal qualification review meetings
  • Results of System Test Campaigns and in particular Ground Segment Integration tests.

J2931 EGSE ENGINEER

The engineer will be assigned to the EGSE and Ground Systems Section of the Software Systems Division. To provide on demand expertise in activities related to EGSE systems.
Tasks will include but are not limited to:

  • Project (such as EarthCare) support on the procurement, development and utilisation of EGSE systems, including problem solving, interfaces with external systems and project reviews.
  • Support on R&D studies, specifically related to the European Ground System Common Core (EGS-CC), and Standardization activities in the EGSE domain
  • Maintenance and future developments of the EGSE Reference Facility as part of the Software Systems Laboratory. This includes Integrating industrial elements in the EGSE reference facility and verifying their functioning in end to end scenarios, maintaining an EGSE software library/configuration management/lab website, evaluate needs and generate requirements for enhancements.

Future Studies Technology Development Engineer

As part of the Earth Observation (D/EOP) Directorate at the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC), you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Support the identification of the technology requirements for future;
  • Earth observations missions, including in support of European industries competitiveness;
  • Providing support to technology developments for future Earth Observation missions, that are conducted in the technology coordination section;
  • Support ESA’s technology harmonisation process

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Our customer is an independent Danish company recognized in satellite test systems, software, independent software verification and validation activities, on-site engineering support and power electronics. Their software systems have been utilized for on-board, check-out, ground station, simulation and in many other critical space related domains.
As part of the project teams, you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Project Management and Scheduling: responsibility over the full project lifecycle;
  • Customer Relationship Management;
  • Responsibility over the team involved in the project development.

Skills & Experience

You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering or equivalent;
  • Several years' experience in managing project work and development activities;
  • Project – and Team Leadership as well as Excellent communication and team-working skills;
  • Solid hands-on design experience with focus on system architecture, including design, integration and testing on a unit and system level;
  • Experience in analyzing, designing and implementing efficient solutions when presented with a requirement specification;
  • Extensive knowledge of modern development and design methods;
  • Ability to thoroughly document your work and Knowledge of Product- Lifecycle, Engineering and Quality standards;
  • Fluency in English is mandatory; knowledge of another European language is an advantage.
