Ground Segment Validation and Operations Engineer in the Ground Infrastructure
Operations Section, Galileo Operations Procurement Service, Mission Operations Department, Directorate of Operations. This post is classified in the A2/A4 grade band on the Coordinated Organisations’ salary scale. Reporting to the Head of Section, the postholder will be responsible for monitoring the preparation, testing, validation and execution of Operations of the Galileo Ground Segment Infrastructure deployed at GCC-I (Galileo Control Centre in Fucino, Italy). With a focus on maintaining service provision, the incumbent will in particular be responsible for:
supporting ground segment deployment, verification and acceptance at GCC-I, leading to Operational Validation Readiness Review (conducted by Galileo Operator) and during the operational validation phase until Operational Readiness Review (by Galileo Operator);
supporting ground segment migration to operational chains of GCC-I, handover to Routine Operations, leading to Operational Service Readiness Review; technical coordinating of the ESA involvement in Operations anomaly handling, non-conformance handling and technical configuration control board processes;
supporting Galileo baseline evolutions by providing the applicable engineering boards with segment operability requirements for new releases, also based on lessons learned, collecting operational improvements and including the maintenance experience provided by the Galileo Operator;
advising representatives of the European GNSS Agency (GSA) and its Galileo Operator on Ground Segment deployment, integration and operational validation strategy and processes, including migration to operational chains, as required;
eCPB-2017-0376 supporting Ground Segment procurement to ensure operability, in particular GS product compliance with Operations requirements, including upgrades, new functionalities; participating on Galileo related review panels, evaluation boards, as required. ESA/VN-ESOC(2017)002 This work requires frequent travel within Europe and interaction with the GSA and industry representatives at all levels.
Applicants for this post should have a Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in engineering or physics, together with proven sound professional experience in the deployment and validation of Ground Segment infrastructure and its operations. Experience of satellite navigation systems and related ground/space infrastructure (GPS, Galileo) is considered essential. Candidates should be system-minded and able to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team. They should show high-level self-motivation and discipline and be results-oriented. They should have excellent communication skills and be able to represent ESA and specifically the Galileo Project, balancing the different interests with external entities such as the GSA and the Galileo Operator. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another member state language is an asset.
