Future Payloads/Instrument Engineer

Sapienza is looking to recruit a Future Payloads/Instrument Engineer to work for ESA-ESTEC, Noordwijk, the Netherlands.

  • Design of analogue and digital electronics in support of various payload instrument validation activities with a particular emphasis on detector read-out electronics
  • Manufacturing and test of electronic circuits
  • Supporting electronic system, components and electro-optical sensor characterisations in the sections laboratories
  • Development of firmware and instrument control and readout software
  • Supporting the development and maintenance of the technical infrastructure needed to validate payload technologies
  • Generally supporting office activities; contributing to the elaboration and implementation of the Science Programme technology development plans
  • Evaluation of proposals in response to calls for missions, participation in reviews, payload expertise in support of system studies
Ideal Candidate: 
  • PhD or Msc degree in electronics engineering
  • Several years of hands-on project or industrial experience in the design, engineering, performance analysis and testing of electronic circuits, preferably in the space domain, particularly expertise in low-noise analogue, high-speed digital techniques and mixed-signal circuits is mandatory
  • Hands-on experience with such electronic designs and relevant CAD and simulation tools is required
  • Good knowledge of sensor technologies covering wavelengths ranging from IR to gamma-rays, electro-optical characterization, cryogenics, and / or the design considerations for space-based payloads would be an asset
  • Possesses creative skills and very good problem-solving skills
  • Must be flexible and able to multi-task
  • Excellent knowledge of English; knowledge of another member-state language is an asset
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the EU.
