It sounds out of this world, and the reality is that it could be happening out of this world - ESA is experimenting with a new method to land exploration rovers on distant planets, such as Mars.  

Venus Express plunging into the atmosphere

ESA's Venus Express, launched Nov. 9, 2005 and arrived at Venus April 11, 2006, has completed routine science observations and is preparing to dive into the planet's hostile atmosphere. Is this the first Lego Man in Space?

A pair of 17-year-olds from Canada, Mathew Ho and Asad Muhammad, attached a styrofoam box with a Lego man, 4 cameras and a GPS equipped phone to a weather balloon. It nearly 80,000 feet before the balloon popped.
